The Moon

Our nearest celestial neighbour at just 384,400 km — close enough to resolve individual craters, mountain ranges, and the ancient lava plains of the maria. Lunar imaging is a completely different discipline from deep-sky: short exposures, high frame rates, and atmospheric seeing becomes the limiting factor rather than integration time. Stacking the sharpest frames from a video sequence and applying wavelets can bring out astonishing surface detail.
